Translational Research

RFP Intent

In response to the Inquiry into Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes in New Zealand (2007) a partnership was formed between the HRC and the DHBRF to fund projects that improve the health of New Zealander's through reducing the impact or incidence of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and/or obesity. It aims to do this through funding short term, translational research projects in one or all of these areas. These projects are to be led by DHBs and/or Primary Care Providers, be no more than one year duration, and provide findings which could be quickly disseminated through the health sector. A total funding pool of approximately $1.5 million will be invested in this initiative.

Partnerships between DHBs and PHOs are central to these projects. The fund aims to engender a culture of research and innovation within the health sector, and it is hoped that this goal will be furthered by providing opportunities for DHBs and Primary Care Providers to undertake and lead translational research.

This is the second round of this initiative and a total funding pool of $800,000 is available for this round. It is expected that up to ten projects will be funded and applicants need to take this infor consideration when developing their budgets. No funding will be made available beyond the duration of the project.

Application procedure

All interested parties are asked to complete a simple Registration of Intent form (ROI-DHBRF008) and return it by post to the HRC by 5pm, Wednesday 29th April 2009.

The completion of this form allows us to gauge the number of applications expected and accurately distribute them among the reviewers.

The Registration of Intent form requires only the most basic information, including contact information and a very brief outline of the proposed project. If you have any problems submitting a ROI please contact Ms Katie Jones.

A full application then needs to be submitted by ALL applicants by 5pm, Wednesday 27th May 2009. Form DHBRF008 should be used and is available below.

All applicants should read the application guidelines before they fill in this form, and should refer back to the guidelines throughout.

Investigator Briefing and Information
A question and answer forum has been established which allows interested parties to submit questions or enquiries relating to any aspect of the RFP and application process.

This forum takes the place of the traditional Investigator Briefing Meeting and can be reached by clicking here, or by clicking on the DHB Research Forum tab above.

Answers to all questions or enquires submitted will be placed within the appropriate category for all interested parties to view. NOTE: Before submitting a question, please check every topic to make sure it has not already been addressed.

The Forum will close on Wednesday 20th May 2009 at 5pm. No further questions will be able to be submitted once the forum closes, however all previous questions and answers will be available for viewing.

Questions submitted during the last round of this initiative are also available to be viewed.

Networking
A networking topic has been set up that allows applicants to post information on their topic and seek collaborations. No contact information will be provided on the site, but interested parties can contact Ms Katie Jones at the HRC who will then notify the appropriate research team.

Research teams who would like to post information on their topic are to use the Ask a Question Button within the Networking Topic, and insert their research topic in the question field.
